I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 also and I hook it up to my TV all the time to watch movies.
The best way is through the HDMI port on the left side, which requires a moderately expensive HDMI cable if you don’t already have one. Once both ends are connected, Windows automatically adds the TV as a display and sound device without you having to adjust any settings at all.
The first time you connect it will ask you how you want to use the TV in conjunction with the internal laptop display. I use Extended Desktop, so I can drag a movie to the TV and watch it full-screen while still using the computer to do other things.
If you don’t have an HDMI connection it is still possible to set it up manually using the S-Video port on the right side and the headphone port on the front. However you will get poorer picture and sound quality and you will have to do more work to get it up and running.
